The syllable dictionary provides individual word counts, syllable breakdowns, definitions, example sentences, and related words where available. Our aim is useful, readable linguistic information, not a claim of perfect accuracy.

Words matched in the dictionary use a stored count. Other words receive a rule-based estimate, clearly labelled. English spelling is irregular, and pronunciation can vary, so estimates and totals that include them may be inaccurate.

Use the text counter to check syllable totals while writing poems or haiku. Pronunciation and poetic conventions can vary, so review the results yourself; the tool does not judge whether a poem follows a particular form.

Counting runs in your browser. Only distinct individual words, not your full text, are sent for dictionary matching. Submitted counter text is not intentionally saved by the application.
